2024 Sedgefield Neighborhood Association Rejuvenation Campaign
The Sedgefield neighborhood is near and dear to the hearts of all those that live in the community. Just like the rest of Charlotte, our neighborhood has been growing and changing in recent years. Unfortunately, while the neighborhood itself seems to be prospering, participation in the neighborhood association hasn’t kept pace. An involved group of neighbors has called for a revitalization of the organization, culminating with the adoption of a revised set of bylaws - and should those bylaws pass, the election of a new board - at a general membership meeting on Tuesday, March 12.
Goals
A neighborhood association exists to serve its membership, and the Sedgefield Neighborhood Association is no different. That said, the group driving this campaign has some specific goals in mind that they believe will set the organization up for long-term success:
Membership drive to boost involvement and engagement throughout the neighborhood
Expand executive board from 4 members to 9 members, making it more representative of the membership at large and dispersing the workload among more individuals
Build trust with membership through Increased transparency and overall communication, including transcripts of meetings, financial updates, etc.
Build on the success of new and longstanding social events to drive engagement
Foster a sense of service through community service projects, beautification efforts, and charitable giving
Call to Action
So, what can you do? While the association exists to serve the membership, the only way it can truly thrive is if the residents participate. A big part of the recent struggles of the organization stem from a lack of participation by the community at large, and leaning on just a few folks to do the heavy lifting. If you would like to see the Sedgefield Neighborhood Association - and the neighborhood itself - engergized, there are a few easy things you can do to get involved:
Stay informed by visiting the SNA website, and joining the Sedgefield Neighborhood Facebook group
Become a member by paying your annual dues. Remember, only members in good standing (those who have paid their dues) can vote on official organization business.
Nominate someone for a board position, or throw your hat in the ring yourself.
Make your voice heard by attending membership meetings and participate in conversations / votes / elections.
