On Tuesday, February 13th the Sedgefield Neighborhood Association Quarterly Meeting was held at Sedgefield United Methodist Church. At the end of that meeting, Dan Kapfhammer addressed the crowd in attendance. Not only did Dan declare his intention to run for President of the Association, he kicked off the SNA Rejuvenation campaign by calling another membership meeting in a month. The primary business at that meeting will be to adopt a revised set of bylaws. If those bylaws are adopted, it would immediately trigger the election of a new board.

If the new bylaws are adopted at the March 12 member meeting, this will trigger an election of a new board. While it is not a guarantee, we are operating under the assumption that the new bylaws will be adopted and therefore must be prepared to elect a new board at that time. Friday, March 1 is the deadline to nominate yourself (or someone else) for one of the available board positions.

The new bylaws propose the expansion of the governing board from 4 officer positions to nine board positions, in total. Those nine board positions will consist of five executive members and four at-large board positions. The named executive positions include those previously defined (President, Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary) along with a new Communications Officer position.

Each of the named positions have specific responsibilities which have been outlined on the same page of the site where you can electronically nominate someone for one of those positions.

Note: as dictated by the active bylaws, 3/1 is also the deadline by which the final version of the proposed bylaws (to be voted on at the 3/12 meeting) must be posted / communicated to the membership.

Once the board nomination period closes (on 3/1), the list of candidates will be posted and distributed for review on the Sedgefield Neighborhood Association website, as well as on the Sedgefield Neighborhoood Faceboook Group no later than 3/2. This is the chance for neighbors to review the list of candidates and prepare for the election on 3/12.

Only members in good standing are eligible to vote on official neighborhood association business (and/or hold a board position). To be a member in good standing, residents must pay dues as set forth by the association. If you want to vote on the bylaw amendments, vote in the board election, or be considered for a board position, you must have dues paid in advance of that meeting.

The current bylaws set the dues at $50 per household. Pay online NOW, before the next meeting, to ensure you are able to vote on the updated bylaws, and - should they pass as expected - vote in the election to select the new board.

Join fellow Sedgefield Neighborhood Association members to discuss and, ultimately, vote on the proposed bylaw changes and participate in board elections. This meeting will be held at the Sedgefield United Methodist Church on Tuesday, March 12 at 7:00 p.m.

The first order of business on the agenda will be to vote on the proposed bylaw changes. If the new bylaws are adopted, the meeting will continue with the election of a new managing board. If the vote to adopt the new bylaws fails, full board elections will NOT be held. It will then be up to the current SNA President, presiding over the meeting, to determine if there is any additional business to be addressed before adjournment.

While we are encouraging neighbors to attend the meeting at the Sedgefield United Methodist Church in person, an electronic ballot will be available to those members who are not able to attend the live meeting. If you will not be attending the meeting in-person, but still want to vote on the bylaws and participate in the board elections, you must notify us at sedgefieldneighborhood@gmail.com no later than Monday, March 11. All electronic votes must be submitted not later than 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 12.

Remember, you MUST be a member in good standing and paid your dues for the year in order to participate in the vote / elections. Any votes submitted by members who have not paid their dues will not be counted.
